English pronunciation coach for iPhone

Hear it. Shadow it. Say every sound right.

Echo listens while you repeat a word or sentence and scores every single sound. The letters you got wrong turn red or yellow right on the word — so you know exactly what to fix, and how to fix it.

How it works

Four steps. A few seconds each.

Shadowing — repeating a native model right after you hear it — is one of the fastest ways to fix an accent. Echo turns it into a tight loop with instant, sound-level feedback.

  1. Listen

Hear a clear model voice in American or British English. Slow it down whenever you need to.

  2. Shadow

Repeat right after the model. In hands-free mode the mic opens by itself and stops when you go quiet.

  3. See each sound scored

Every sound gets a 0–100 score. Wrong letters turn red, nearly-right ones yellow — on the word itself.

  4. Fix it

Get a mouth-position tip for the exact sound you missed, compare your voice with the model and try again.

Try it

See exactly which letters let you down

Most apps tell you a word was "wrong". Echo tells you which sound was wrong, which letters spell it, and what your mouth should do instead. Tap a word to see the kind of feedback you get after every attempt.

  • Overall, accuracy, fluency and completeness scores for every attempt
  • Sound-by-sound breakdown in IPA, with the letters mapped onto the word

Per-sound scoring

A score for every sound, not just every word

Echo uses Microsoft Azure Pronunciation Assessment to grade each phoneme you say. Then it maps those sounds back onto the spelling, so th in think lights up red when it came out as s.

  • Red and yellow letters show the sounds to fix at a glance
  • Sentence view marks each word as correct, close, wrong, missed or extra
  • Accuracy, fluency, completeness and sentence rhythm (prosody) for American English
  • Goal of 80 per item, with stars and XP for every attempt
Echo result for the word think: overall 64, the letters th in red with the θ sound scored 24 while ɪ, ŋ and k scored 88

Made for Persian speakers · ساخته‌شده برای فارسی‌زبان‌ها

Built around the sounds Persian doesn't have

Persian has no th, its «و» isn't an English w, its vowels don't come in short/long pairs, and no Persian word starts with two consonants. That's why the same handful of mistakes shows up again and again — and why Echo's lessons target exactly those.

θ ð

th becomes s, t, d or z

Tongue between the teeth, not behind them.

sink→think dis→this
w

w sounds like v

Persian «و» uses teeth and lip; English w uses round lips only.

vest→west vine→wine
sp st

An extra "e" before s

Start straight on the s — no vowel in front.

estudent→student espeak→speak
ɪ iː

ship and sheep sound the same

English separates short and long vowels; Farsi doesn't.

ship≠sheep live≠leave
sts

Dropped final consonants

Say every consonant at the end, one after another.

mons→months tex→texts
ŋ

An extra g after ng

The sound ends in the nose — no separate g.

sing-g→sing long-g→long

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is Echo?

Echo (Persian name: سایه) is an iPhone app that coaches your English pronunciation with shadowing. You hear a model, repeat it, and get a score for every sound — with the mispronounced letters highlighted on the word and a tip for fixing them.

How does Echo score my pronunciation?

Your recording is sent to Microsoft Azure Pronunciation Assessment, which scores each phoneme as well as overall accuracy, fluency, completeness and — for American English sentences — prosody. Echo maps the sound scores onto the spelling so the right letters turn red or yellow. If the scoring server can't be reached, Echo falls back to an approximate on-device check.

Is Echo free?

Yes. The Free plan includes 2 full lessons every day, and you can unlock up to 3 more a day by watching short ads. Plus gives unlimited lessons and hearts with an ad between lessons, Pro removes the ads, and Family gives Pro to up to 6 people. Pro and Family yearly start with a 7-day free trial.

What's the difference between Plus and Pro?

Both give you unlimited lessons and hearts. Plus is the cheaper monthly option and shows an ad between lessons; Pro has no ads at all, monthly or yearly with a 7-day free trial. Pro is also available as a Family plan.

How does the Family plan work?

The Family plan uses Apple Family Sharing. The organizer subscribes once and up to 5 other family members get full access on their own Apple accounts — 6 people in total. Everyone keeps their own progress, streak and league.

Will Echo help with IELTS or TOEFL speaking?

Pronunciation is one of the four equally weighted criteria in IELTS Speaking, and clear delivery matters in TOEFL Speaking too. Echo trains individual sounds, word stress and fluency, and includes an IELTS speaking topic with exam-style sentences. It does not replace a full exam course or guarantee a score.

American or British English?

You choose your reference accent — American or British — and Echo uses it for the model voice and for scoring. Sentence rhythm (prosody) is currently scored for American English only.

Do you keep my voice recordings?

No. Audio is sent only to be scored and is not stored on our servers; we keep the scores, not the sound. You can choose to keep your first and latest recording of each word on your own iPhone to hear your progress.

Which languages does the app support?

The interface is available in 32 languages, including Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Urdu. Right-to-left languages are fully supported.

Which devices can I use?

Echo runs on iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Your subscription follows your Apple ID, so you can restore it on a new iPhone with "Restore purchases" on the upgrade screen in Profile.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Echo and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
